GLBT COMMUNITY TO MARCH THIS SATURDAY:
STAND OUT for equality calls for a boycott of anti-equality businesses

WHAT: During one of the busiest shopping days of the holiday season, Stand OUT for Equality, a campaign spearheaded by the Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada and aimed achieving equality for GLBT Nevadans, is reminding all Nevadans about the vast buying power of the GLBT community by holding a march this Saturday, December 13 at 3 p.m.

The “Our Money Talks” march aims to alert fair-minded Nevadans about those businesses to boycott for supporting California’s Proposition 8 ballot measure against marriage equality and/or for sustaining anti-equality polices in their workplaces. Stand OUT is working with the group behind www.gayvegasblacklist.com to publicize the local boycott list.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality, the buying power of America’s GLBT community is estimated to be $759 BILLION in 2009. This number is expected to grow to $835 BILLION by 2011. In addition, 88% of GLBT adults are likely to consider a brand or company that is known to provide equal workplace benefits for all employees.

In addition, Stand OUT for Equality is urging fair-minded citizens to spend their dollars with companies who support equality and value the rights of every American citizen.

WHEN: Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

WHERE: Stand OUT for Equality will march from The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada (953 E. Sahara Ave, Suite B-31) to the intersection of Flamingo and Maryland, past the Boulevard Mall where thousands of shoppers will be determining where and how to spend their money.
